About Us

We are a small group based on the town of Rugby, Warwickshire.

Our aim is to encourage and aid the study of Family History which extends to conducting research relating to Rugby & surrounding areas for Members resident outside the district.

A comprehensive programme is arranged each year which includes a varied range of talks held monthly, interspersed with group visits to research establishments, social occasions and regular computer and project evenings. We are currently transcribing the Parish Registers of Harborough Magna, near Rugby.

We originated from a family history class run in an Independent Adult Education Centre called The Percival Guildhouse, located adjacent to the Rugby Town Library, itself equipped with extensive facilities for reference and research. Having established ourselves, we were invited to become an affiliated group of the Guildhouse providing us with a place to meet on a permanent basis and also facilities for a library and readers. Family History introductory courses continue to be available for beginners in the Autumn and Spring Terms. We also run a helpdesk at Rugby Library on the third Thursday of every month.

In summary, the Rugby Family History Group is a friendly mixture of beginners and experienced family historians, it offers support, a regular magazine and a varied programme of activities, providing interest for all our members. If you live in Rugby but have family history interests elsewhere, like a lot of our members, you will be made welcome.
